KMUW Voter Guide: Where the District 6 Candidates Stand — Read, Compare, Decide
KMUW recently published their Voter Guide covering the three-way race for Wichita City Council, District 6, giving voters direct insight into each candidate’s priorities and plans.
This questionnaire highlights how I — Maggie Ballard — approach the issues that matter most to our neighborhoods, from affordable housing to preserving historic character, balancing taxes, and addressing homelessness with compassion and accountability.

Why Maggie’s Responses Stand Out
- Deep roots in District 6 — I grew up here, built businesses here, and have led service efforts in our community.
- Track record of action — From incentivizing housing development to converting vacant commercial space, I’ve pushed policies that move the needle.
- Balanced, principled approach — I support targeted, short-term sales tax only when tied to infrastructure with a clear sunset; I believe in using incentives and smart planning rather than blanket mandates.
- Community-centered solutions — On homelessness, I’ve advocated for shelters with wraparound services, not just temporary fixes.
